A tentative agreement has been reached

A tentative agreement has been reached between the Nova Scotia Government and some striking long-term care workers, potentially allowing staff to return to work as early as today. About 3,600 workers represented by the a public service union have been on strike at 36 long-term care homes across the province since April 13th. Today marks eight weeks since the strike began. The tentative agreement must now be ratified by union members within the next 10 days. If approved, the deal would then move forward for votes by other union locals. The province’s latest offer included wage increases ranging from 12 to 24 per cent over four years, along with a 70 per cent increase in shift and weekend premiums. The proposal also included funding to establish a defined benefit pension plan for workers at facilities that currently do not offer one.
