Agriculture Canada is warning that most of Nova Scotia has moved into moderate drought conditions, with three severe drought areas emerging near the Annapolis Valley and Truro. The government agency says the province has not received any substantial rain to recharge wetlands, streams and lakes. The dry conditions are drying up farmland and fuelling wildfires, with producers in the driest parts of the province reporting that surface water supplies and shallow wells have dried up. Many municipalities have implemented voluntary water conservation measures. Moderate to severe drought conditions are being reported in all Atlantic provinces.
