Power rates are going up, but it will be a month before we know by how much. We do know it’s not as much as Nova Scotia Power wants. The Nova Scotia Energy Board issued a 300-page decision on the utility's request to hike power rates by 3.8 per cent, retroactive to January 1st, and by another 4.8 per cent next January. In its decision, the regulator reduces the amount of executive compensation it can recover from power rates and requires the company to reduce spending by $10 million, while still allowing investment to strengthen the electricity grid. Nova Scotia Power will use the decision to recalculate its rate increases in two weeks, and after stakeholder comments, the Board will issue a decision on how much the rates will increase.
