Housing Shortage

According to a new report, Nova Scotia must double the number of annual residential construction starts over the next decade. The Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation says the province should aim to begin construction on 12,540 houses a year to reach pre-pandemic affordability levels. An official with the organization says residential construction has not kept pace with the explosion in population over the past five years. The agency estimates the province will begin to build 5,450 homes this year.
