Lunenburg Water Information

Residents who have low water, or no water, in their wells because of the drought conditions may run into difficulty getting fill-ups at the Lunenburg Fire Station. In an update on social media, Fire Chief Darren Romkey says several factors are impacting the department’s ability to help. Chief Romkey says the department is not allowed to fill water jugs, wells or any potable containers from the trucks for health reasons. The other factor is construction work at the fire station. Romkey says that while the front apron of the station is being replaced, there are several pieces of heavy machinery and construction workers out front of the hall. Trucks are temporarily being kept in the back parking lot. During a fire call, fire trucks will exit past the bay door where jugs are normally filled. That, along with members arriving at the station, makes it a very congested, busy spot. Romkey says added vehicles coming in would be unsafe for both residents and firefighters, as well as add to the congestion and possibly delay emergency response. He ended his statement by saying the district does have a coupon plan in place and, “Hopefully, we soon get some much-needed rain.”
