On June 9, 2026, the Municipal Council of the District of Lunenburg approved First Reading of a proposed new Municipal Planning Strategy (MPS) and Municipal‑Wide Land Use By‑law (LUB), marking a major step toward implementing zoning across the entire municipality for the first time.
If adopted, the new planning framework will set long‑term rules for land use and development in all communities. This represents one of the most comprehensive planning initiatives ever undertaken by the Municipality.
A Public Hearing is scheduled for June 25, 2026, giving residents the opportunity to provide formal feedback before Council considers final adoption.
This milestone follows a multi‑year planning process launched in 2020, shaped by extensive engagement with residents, community organizations, and stakeholders throughout the District.
