The Nova Scotia Liberal Party will be tabling a bill this fall aimed at restricting social media use to anyone under 16. Called the Social Media Responsibility Act, it will set a minimum age of 16 for social media use. Liberal MLA Iain Rankin will table the bill and says it will ensure that children under 16 are not exposed to harmful content or interactions that can have life-long impacts on their mental health. If it is passed, Nova Scotia would be the first province to set an age limit, following countries like Norway and Australia. Cell phone use was banned in schools a year ago.
